What a test drive booking platform needs to deliver in 2026
Test drive campaigns and roadshows are increasingly moving to digital booking journeys. But there's a real gap between "you can book online" and a platform that carries the entire process. dgtl.ai built exactly that for the Audi Driving Days 2026 booking platform, across six locations over five weeks. What became clear along the way: a test drive booking platform needs to do more than manage appointments today.
What is a test drive booking platform?
A test drive booking platform is a digital solution that lets interested customers book test drives for specific vehicle models online, check in on site, and confirm their participation in a legally compliant way. Unlike a simple booking form, it covers the entire journey, from registration through model selection to check-in at the vehicle. For multi-location campaigns like roadshows, the process also needs to work identically at every location.
1: Email validation against bot bookings and invalid addresses
Free test drives are a popular target for bot bookings and spam sign-ups. A solid platform puts a deliberate step in front of the actual booking: users enter their email address first and only then receive a personal booking link. This validation filters out non-existent and mistyped addresses before a single slot is even assigned.
The benefit goes beyond spam protection: anyone who eventually hands leads over to a CRM benefits from clean contact data from the very start.
2: Automated age and model eligibility checks
For test drives involving high-performance models, age eligibility isn't a detail, it's a requirement. At the Audi Driving Days, for example, some models can only be driven from age 25, others from age 21. A well-built platform checks the date of birth at registration and automatically shows each person only the models they're allowed to drive. That takes manual checks off the staff's plate on site, and the right selection is already locked in before anyone travels.
The same logic can prevent someone from booking the same model twice, while still allowing multiple different models to be booked.
3: A legally sound check-in on site
Booking is only half the journey. On site, you need a check-in process that's just as well thought out as the registration. A model with multiple checkpoints has proven effective: a main check-in at the front desk, and a separate check-in for each individual test drive. There, staff confirm a visual check of the driver's license, assign the vehicle, and have the participant sign a digital waiver, including confirmation that their data is correct. Notes about the vehicle, such as its condition, can be logged directly in the app instead of on paper slips that go missing later.
The result is a process that works the same way at every location, even when the staff on the ground changes.
Why campaign measurement shouldn't end at the click, but at the lead
The test drive is the point of highest purchase intent in the entire marketing journey. A platform that only books, but doesn't connect further, leaves that moment unused.
An integration with Adobe Analytics attributes every booking to its campaign and channel, across channels and by location. For campaigns running over several weeks and locations, that means media budgets can be evaluated while the campaign is still live, not only in the post-event report.
Just as important is handing the resulting leads over to a CRM like Salesforce, complete with campaign source, model choice, and location. Marketing consent is captured directly in the booking flow and passed along with the lead, so the CRM can trigger the double opt-in process. That documents consent, with a record of when and in what context it was given, and makes the lead usable immediately after the event.
That's how a test drive booking turns from a single event into a complete data trail, from the first click to a usable lead.
Checklist: What makes a test drive booking platform future-ready?
- Email validation ahead of the actual booking
- Automated age and model checks instead of manual review
- Check-in with multiple checkpoints and a digital participation waiver
- Integration with web analytics for campaign-level evaluation
- Direct CRM handover of leads, including campaign source and consent
- A process that repeats identically across multiple locations and dates
dgtl.ai built this approach for the Audi Driving Days 2026, together with agency The Storytelling Company, across six locations between July and August.
